Beginning

Beginning your Ourlife diet plan:

A simple, forty-five minute consultation with a Nurse Practitioner will help you determine the program that is right for you.

Your program may last anywhere from 6 to 12 weeks, depending on how much weight you want to lose and taking into consideration all relevant medical issues.

All that we require to get you started on a medically-monitored weight loss program is an EKG, Resting Energy Expenditure (REE) and a blood test in order to complete your clinical examination (You may provide recent EKG and labs, or we will arrange them for you. We will perform the REE as part of your appointment).

About the REE:

The Resting Energy Expenditure test is a simple way to determine how many calories your body burns per day (when at rest).

All it takes is a few minutes to sit down, kick back and maybe read a magazine, while breathing normally into a mask.

The mask is attached by a tube to a small machine, which measures the amount of oxygen you inhale and the amount of carbon dioxide you exhale. The machine then uses this information to calculate the amount of energy (or calories) your body uses while at rest.

Next steps:

The beginning phase of your Ourlife plan continues with a series of brief, follow-up consultations, as determined by your goals. These might include:

  • A visit with one of Ourlife’s Registered Dietitians - Learn more about how to succeed on the program that you and your clinicians have selected.
  • Fitness Assessment - One of our Certified Personal Trainers can determine your fitness level and recommend a workout that you will enjoy. This is not a stress test!
  • Wellness Counseling - Receive education and support from our Wellness Counselors as you strive toward your weight loss goals.

You will be weighed at each of these visits. When you near your goal weight, you will begin to transition to a healthy diet, so that you can keep the weight off. About the Ourlife Fitness Assessment:

Ourlife’s Fitness Assessment is not a stress test! And you don’t have to be on the diet plan to meet with one of our Certified Personal Trainers.

The assessment includes:

  • One mile of walking
  • Push-ups
  • Sit-ups
  • and a flexibility test (Sit and Reach)

Following your assessment and a conversation about exercise facilities and equipment available to you, your Personal Trainer will offer a Fitness Prescription to go with your Ourlife diet plan.
